Millions of Americans are drinking water carcinogenic
US study reported that the drinking water supply for more than six million Americans contain unsafe levels of industrial chemicals linked to cancer and other serious health problems.
Perfluorinated chemicals used in products in the United States, ranging from food to clothing covers of kitchenware that does not stick to the food and the foam used in fire fighting.
These products have been associated with an increased risk of kidney disease, testicular cancer and disorders of hormonal and high cholesterol levels, obesity, where it says senior researcher Shinde is, a researcher in the field of public health and engineering at Harvard University in Boston that the chemicals are PFCs are chemicals manmade used sixty years ago , noting that once you enter these chemicals to the water, it is difficult to extract.
It also said that most of the current wastewater treatment processes do not remove chemicals perfluorinated effectively.
To determine how many people who are exposed to the saturated materials (PFCs) in drinking water supplies researchers examined six types of concentrations of these substances in more than 36 thousand water samples collected across the country by the US Environmental Protection Agency between 2013 and 2015.
They also examined industrial sites or make use of these materials, in addition to military training sites and civil airports, where fire-fighting foams used in addition to sewage treatment plants.
The researchers concluded in their study that the exchange of such plants that can not remove perfluorinated chemicals from wastewater treatment using approved methods may contaminate groundwater.
The study found that perfluorinated chemicals can be monitored in the minimum mandatory reporting levels of the Environment Agency in the lives of 184 of the 4864 water supply in 33 states across the United States.
